My name is Alanna Lopez and I am extremely blessed and humbled by receiving the title of the 2015 Sweetheart for the Lambda Iota chapter of Sigma Chi. I am a proud sister of Phi Mu Theta Gamma where I have served as Risk Management, Social and Derby Days Chair. I am currently a senior, majoring in Special Education, graduating in Fall 2015.
I have been involved in the FIU community as Special Projects Coordinator for Student Government, Social Media Coordinator and Director of Student Programming Council, and an active participant in Dance Marathon and Relay for Life for the past 3 years. I met the gentlemen of Sigma Chi in Fall of 2011. Even in their early stages, I could tell these men would go on to do great things for not only FIU, but our community as a whole. I saw a group of leaders, innovators, and philanthropists and they have not let me down. Being an out of state student from New Jersey, I was so blessed to find not only friends in Sigma Chi, but a family. These are the gentlemen I knew I could count on for anything and vice versa.
Witnessing the continued growth from pledge class to pledge class, year to year, only affirms my belief that the Lambda Iota chapter of Sigma Chi is a force to be reckon with. The accomplishments these gentlemen have achieved since I've known them, has been astounding and has kept me in awe of them. Anything I could do to help these men get to the next level, I did in a heartbeat, and will continue to do.
How lucky I am to represent two organizations that are so close to my heart and will continue to be a positive impact on me for the rest of my life. As sweetheart, I can only help and encourage these men to reach their full potential as individuals, and as a chapter, but considering how fast this chapter has progressed, we're going to accomplish that in no time.
